Great Skills but With Pillow Hands: Fans Left Divided as Devin Haney DropsLatest Training Cli

The 135 lbs. boxer could be a dormant volcano bidding its time to erupt. The reigning undisputed champion Devin Haney is sitting pretty after handing over the Australian George Kambosos Jr. two consecutive defeats last year. All he needs to do now is to defend his titles against upcoming challengers.

But the name of the contender most likely to face him this year unsettles most of the fans and followers. Two-time Olympic gold medalist and later former three-division world titleholder Vasiliy Lomachenko is not someone in the right mind would take lightly.

Per an article on Sky Sports on New Year’s eve, Top Rank’s Bob Arum seems certain about the momentous clash taking place this year. But speculations are rife that “The Dream” might take the ladder to 140 lbs. Such an action might pit him against Teofimo Lopez, who staged an upset victory over Lomachenko two years ago.

Devin Haney duels a punching bag

In the meantime, Haney, quite popular with over 200k followers on Twitter, makes it a point to update the latest developments, news, and training footage.

For instance, today, he shared a half-a-minute video of punching a bag at the gym. Then, he messaged, “Just touching,” with an angry emoji.

While more than 100k saw the clip, some took time to express their point of view.

Fans for and against the reigning champion

@pleaslucian probably took a jibe at the champ. He mentioned that Haney is the best Lightweight boxer in the world as long as he executes varying combinations. But the moment he stops, he gets relegated to a secondary status!

When Devin Haney throws combinations, he's the best lightweight in the world. When he doesn't, he's the second best.

@ElderMichaux lamented that while “The Dream” is undoubtedly one of the boxers he likes a lot, he couldn’t help but agree with what the SPuthpaw TV said about the latter having a “glass chin.”

Hey, Devin is one of my fav boxers but I like this quote from Southpaw TV “Devin got a glass jaw.”

@XpertAssassin appreciated the champion’s moves as they appeared in the clip, calling it well-arranged, straightforward, and reliable.

Nice and orchestrated. Simple and consistent. 🔥💪🏽

@barron_muhammad also appreciated Haney and stressed that the latter is taking the proper measures. After all, once a boxer is inside the ring, the only thing that he can rely upon is his muscle memory.

That's all you need to do champ, it's muscle memory once you're inside that squared circle 💪🏿💪🏿

@Elias091781 admired the young champion’s prowess in the sport. But he couldn’t help but highlight that the latter remains ‘feather fisted.’

Hence, he advised Haney to focus on power as he seemed to be lacking in that area.

Great skills but with pillow hands . Should work on that power …. you sacrifice power with speed.

@pvillarmusica was clear that Vasiliy Lomachenko would have the upper hand in a fight. The Ukrainian stood way above the American in terms of ability and technique.

Lol, Lomachenko will beat this guy for sure. You can tell who has much better technique and skills in general.

— Pedro Villar (@pvillarmusica) February 11, 2023

@BoxBallWrite sneered that Haney’s punches barely impacted the bag. He should be deceiving himself.

Not even touching champ don’t kid yourself

Yesterday, the “boxingscene” mentioned a chance of Devin Haney meeting Vasiliy Lomachenko by May in Las Vegas. But the thirty-four-year-old Ukrainian’s boxing prowess fails to impress a few like Shakur Stevenson. Moreover, during his last bout, “Loma” received stiff competition from Jamaine Ortiz. Hence, it is sufficient for Stevenson to believe that Devin Haney, who impressed the world with back-to-back wins in Australia last year, is clearly in the saddle.
