Ryan Garcia had one of the year’s biggest fights. He probably wants to kickstart the new year on a similar note. In what is being touted as one of the most significant fights in a lot of big matches lined up for 2024, he and Devin Haney are picking their way to a momentous clash.
But it’s not that Garcia didn’t have other options to consider. During the post-fight press conference for the Oscar Duarte fight, he called out Rolando Romero. However, as it appears from one of his tweets, seemingly, for want of affirmative action from the WBA light welterweight champion, ‘KingRy’ took a decision to move ahead. Both Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia have known each other since their amateur days. So in the six bouts they fought, it is said that they evenly distributed the victories between them. Perhaps they must have felt it was high time to put an end to their long-running argument in a professional arena.
Through a series of tweets, Ryan Garcia, after chiding Rolando Romero on missing the boat, forked out a tentative Devin Haney bout. Flaying ‘Rollie,’ Garcia highlighted how he and his team literally bided their time. They just vacillated, and time passed by. Resultingly, it left him confused about whether he was genuinely interested in proceeding with a fight or wanted to stay on break.
Then he also added on negotiating for the Devin Haney fight. Hence, requesting Romero to honor that, Garcia mentioned in no uncertain terms that there wouldn’t be any further engagements in that direction. So Ryan Garcia said, “I’m sorry, Rollies. You and your team work way [too slowly], and you were way [too] indecisive. I didn’t know if you wanted to box or [go on] vacation. Devin Haney and I are in negotiations respect that. I’m not entertaining anything. Thanks.“

Though he didn’t seem to have tagged him, ‘The Dream’ quipped, “See u soon pal.” Ryan Garcia further added to it. It was a fight that had been in the making for a long time, and most knew about it: “This has been a long time coming, and you know that!! #GarciaHaney.”
Finally, thanking the almighty, he tweeted that it would be the seventh time he and Devin Haney would square up. Hence, it’s totally justified that it culminates in a professional arena for good. “This will actually be the 7th fight between us. It’s only right; it’s on the professional stage. Thank you, Lord Jesus. It’s time to RUMBLE,” said Garcia.

However, it will be interesting to note that one of the followers shared a screen shot of a response from Rolando Romero. Dated December 17, the WBA light welterweight champion appears to be questioning when Ryan Garcia posed a question to followers about whether they would like to see him go against Romero first and then take on Haney or vice versa.
As the matter appears to be reaching a definite end, it seems Romero has launched a few salvos from his end. Anyhow, it’s not the first time he has been at loggerheads with Garcia. They have been going back and forth for quite some time now.
What’s your take? Do you think Ryan Garcia should have given a bit more time to Rolando Romero? Please share your views with us in the comments below.
